Translation of article from Allers (darn, I forgot to make a note on the date).
Mama Rybak's winner receipt
Alexander Rybak (23) was not in doubt as to how to celebrate winning the ESC: It would have to be with mama Natasja's pancakes blinchiki!
Crazy! Everything went crazy when Alexander Rybak charmed millions of viewers - and sang "Fairytale" to the top of ESC. After the finale the sympathetic Nesodden-boy neither of champagne nor Russian caviar, but of mama Natasja's pancakes!
- Blinchiki are pancakes Russian style. They are easy to make, taste very good and are also healthy - because they contains natural ingredients and with very little fat, tells Natasja Rybak.
Using what you have, is a good basis for Alexander's mom when she enters the kitchen. If it is september, she likes to use dried cep mushrooms (my favourite mushroom, by the way!) in the blinchiki, or leftover cooked meat from the day before.
- Blinchiki is a common dish for people with background from Russia and Belarus. It is mainly the filling that separates them from Norwegian pancakes, Natasja says.
- What is Alexander's favourite?
- Blinchiki with cottage cheese, raisins and sour creme. He loves it, but since the finale in Moscow my boy has had time to eat it only once, she says.
Life changed enormously for the small family of three when Alexander over night became Europe's favourite. From time to time the parents Natasja and Igor worried that the attention would be too much. Alexander started to play violin and piano at the age of five - when the family came to Norway from Belarus. The ESC-winner had his father as a violin teacher until he became a teenager.
- Alexander was always good at school and loved to read. As a child we always read fairytales in Russian to him. TV, and later video games took much of his time. I think he immersed himself in movies and games to find some peace in everyday life. Sometimes we thought he spent too much time indoors, Natasja Rybak told Dagbladet.
To Allers, mama Rybak is most concerned about bringing forth all the positive around her son. He has always been an entertainer digging the ramp light!
- Alexander has always loved performing for the audience. The response and the excitement by playing for others, gives him energy, Natasja says.
- What is the biggest difference between before and after ESC?
- That we as parents hardly see him. At the same time I must say that we love everything that happens; the mailbox is full of letters for Alexander every day, lots of people love him and that attention is very nice. We have experienced that everywhere, not just here at Nesodden.
- What is the most important you and dad has taught him?
- It has not been necessary for us to teach him anything. Alexander has found his own way quite naturally in the life we lived as a family. And he is the same boy today as he used to be.
- Who is he to you?
- He is my only son, and that says everything: Alexander is the most important and the dearest in my life. I am looking forwards to things settling down a little and we can have some more time together again - perhaps with blinchiki on the dinner table!
