Eurovision
After winning Eurovision, May 16 2009, with the highest score ever obtained, there is a non-comparable hype around Alexander Rybak. We met him.
At the age of 23, the winner of the 54th ESC, Alexander Rybak seems to remain grounded. When asked what he enjoys, he simply replies "I like playing video games and watching DVDs." Although Eurovision is seen as an outdated programme in France, Alexander Rybak and his violin have managed to create a real hype around his performance. His participation in Eurovision came aqbout by chance. However, when he composed his song "Fairytale", he had the intuition that this title might do well in this contest. And he was quite right! In addition to win the Eurovision, the victory of Alexander Rybak is perfectly legitimate since he obtained 387, the highest score ever in Eurovision.
Moreover, being a huge star in Norway, his native country, he wanted to face a different audience from his home audience. Indeed, a festival where he participated in Norway saw some riots. Being very popular among the people, and especially among young people, the singer tells melty.fr that this hype/public interest can be scary because he doesn’t really know if his success is really due to his work or if it’s just a fashionalble thing. When asked if his rather good looks may play a role in this success, he replies that "everything depends on what you want to do, physical appearance may be an advantage as well as a disadvantage, I don’t really care about that.”
In any case, Eurovision served as a springboard to make himself known internationally. His victory made a huge impact and now the singer has got a massive number of interviews to do all over Europe. He tells us that all these trips are for him "very rewarding and that different cultures influence my compositions." The singer is a classical violinist. Classical music doesn’t really influence his compositions, but rather his way of composing by helping him to structure the arrangements. Alexander Rybak’s musical influences are very varied. He has therefore explained that he likes Eminem for his "honesty", Michael Jackson for "his sense of putting on a show" and Sting for "his way of writing." After this impressive victory, Alexander Rybak has already found his way to the studio to record his new album. In addition, he will make a tour in Norway and another one in Europe with male and female dancers. Take note, female fans!
I would particularly like to thank Alexander Rybak and Marina Sercy for dedicating their precious time to do this interview
