Alexander Rybak: „The person on „Eurovision“ I liked most was Svetlana Loboda - very sexy“

The winner of the international song contest is planning on going on a big tour through many countries and also on releasing a new album.

The 23 years old singer and musician from Norway, Alexander Rybak went into the history of “Eurovision” not only as a winner, getting the first place, but also a participant who received the highest votes ever. His result - 387 points. We can say most definitely that the humble Norwegian with Belrussian roots made Europe surrender within three minutes. When the editorial staff of the radio “Echo Moskvy” had invited Alexander into the studio, they were pleasantly surprised that the singer, who had immigrated from Belrussia to Norway as a small child, did not forget the mother tongue and speaks wonderfully Russian. Here we give an excerpt of the Alexander Rybak’s conversation with the journalists.

- Alexander, how do people call you in Norway, Alex or Sasha?
- Friends call Alex, and my parents and family members - Sasha.
- That means, you’re Sasha Rybak?
- Yes.
- How many percent of viewers did vote for you to be the representative of Norway at “Eurovision”?
- Quite many. Around 80, I did not expect such a result.
- How old were you when your family moved to Norway?
- Almost six. At the beginning, my father went by himself. He was on a tour there, and I started to like this country. And besides, a very wealthy family took him under its wing. My father started to work, save money, so my mama and I can go to him. My papa is also a violinist. He is a teacher and play in an orchestra in the same time. My mama used to work in an editorial department, now she plays piano.
- What kind of education have you received?
- Right now, I am a student in the 4th year in the conservatory. Before that, I was in the school for children, then three years in the high school - a highschool with a specialisation in music. In Norway, you can enrol in the conservatory no younger than 19.
- What wind brought you, a classical violinist, into the pop music?
- I got tired playing the heavy stuff: Beethoven, Rachmaninoff. Just waited to have a little rest from all that. That’s why I decided take part in the musical project “Idol”. You have here the identical show called “The Star Factory”. The first time, I did this show in 2004. After that, I continued to do classical music. I sang, played violin and composed. It was interesting.
- Sasha, many viewers noticed that during the performance on stage you stick your tongue out all the time.
- I don’t do it on purpose. I’m fighting against it. Before the final, I said to myself: “If you stick that tongue one more time - I’ll kill ya. [*lol* I really can imagine how he stands there in this tiny plastic dressing room in his vest and chaotic hair, looking oh so serious into the mirror and trying to intimidate his own reflection! And then on stage, he stands there, looks down into the limelight of the female smiles and oops this naughty naughty tongue does what it can best - make girls crazy! Ach, ach, such a flirty-girty heart-throb! He just can’t help himself and we don’t want him to!!]
- During the press conference, you were wearing glasses - why are you on stage without?
- I have contact lenses. [An honest, simple and most obvious answer is Alex’ specialty. In the press conference in Bulrussia, when he was there the first time, he was asked whether he is too shy to go over to girls and flirt with them. He answered, no - but it is also completely useless, ‘cause girls come to him. That’s why we love love love him. [BTW: This was the famous love confession of Mr. Darcy.] But sometimes, I take them out [probably at nights ;)] and put the glasses on [probably after waking up and during brushing teeth in boxer shorts in hotel bathrooms. You’re done daydreaming? Can we go on or do you need a minute?]
- Before your arrival in Moskow, the journalists were wondering whether you speak Russian.
- My parents and I speak Russian with each other. Although we use more and more Norwegian words. It is difficult for me here in Moskow to have conversations with people because, in Norway, everybody says “you” to the other [“ty” intimate, friendly usage of you”], but here, you are supposed to say “you” [“vy” a respectful and distant usage of you] to some people. I was told that I should say “vy” to people who you respect. But how am I supposed to know who to respect and who not to. [*lol* He’s like a child: They also say the strangest things which have so much meaning in them, which never crossed your mind. And I also want him to cuddle every time he says things like that.]
- Do you think in Norwegian or in Russian?
- Most of the time I think in English. [What a marvellous illustration of his diplomatic kills!! Now nobody here can be offended - but I, personally, really could care less! I perfectly capable of enjoying him speak a language without understanding a single word, while he takes his lenses out, puts his glasses on and walks in boxer shorts over through the hotel room to the bathroom to brush his teeth. :D I think this time you really should take a break before we go on - don’t want you to have a stroke! :D] It depends on the person I talking to. In Norway, you are well trained in English skills, whereas the general education is relatively worse than in Russia. The expectations are much lower, so it is easy to be in school.
- Your song “Fairytale”, which made you win in Eurovision, seduced the whole Europe deservingly: it is, indeed, very melodious.
- I dedicated to a girl I loved. Even though theses feelings belong to the past (Ingrid has a fiancé, next year she is going to get married), the memory of the first love is still there. It lives in my soul.
- Be honest, Sasha, do girls in Moskow hit on you?
- No, it’s me who’s hitting on them. [That’s right!! How do you think I got in this hotel room? *lol*] I will be honest and tell you that it is easy to be with a girl who is not an artist. I am dreaming of showing her the world and stuff like this. I simply want to be the hero. Meanwhile, she should not be the heroic one. I want a princess, not a hero.
- Which competitor did you like the most?
- Thanks for asking that. Svetlana Loboda. She has such a complex performance and the song is beautiful. Svetlana is a extremely sexual woman. I was surprised to hear that she wrote the song for the Eurovision by herself. She, also, gave me the “Anti-Crisis Boy”-t-shirt as a present. I even considered performing in that t-shirt. [There you have the naughty tongue again!!]
The Russian representative Nastya Prichodko would be very popular in Scandinavia. It’s simply great that a beautiful woman sings a beautiful song. And doesn’t try to be sexy like the rest. [So, I am making a list: he likes sex bombs, he likes the wall flowers, he prefers non-celebrities: That’s us!!!!!!] In Norway, the femininity is appreciated when legs, shoulders and décolleté are covered. [But maybe it’s for another reason: maybe it’s just to cold ;)] Naturally, I was blown away by the French star Patricia Kaas: She has a very good song, although this composition doesn’t suit the Eurovision.
- After winning the contest, you got a great opportunity to break into the market of the Russian music industry.
- I have a wonderful manager, her name is Katrina. She managed to sign a contract with 20 countries. I also plan to release an album.
