A little interview during the Junior Eurovision (from 1.30)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H-7_gj6-wE
Reporter: Alexander Rybak, the winner of ESC 2009 will perform the interval act in the Junior Eurovision. The singer has got a bit sick but specially for the viewers of the “Channel 1” he agreed to give a small interview.
Alex: I like it very much that there is such a professionalism here, so they have invited many people from Sweden, for example, because it’s a fact that there are the best technicians in Sweden.
Because it’s a very good team and I’m very glad that Eurovision is taking place here this year.
Reporter: Also Alexander shared his impressions about the participants.
Alex: Honestly speaking, everybody have almost the same rhythm, almost the same dances. I liked very much the boy from Belarus, he… (coughs) I haven’t seen any dancers there. It’s a very strong performance because it’s all around him, only him.
Reporter: And already leaving he stumbled over Daniel (the Belarusian participant)
Alex to Daniel: You are the best one here!
Daniel: Thank you.
Alex: The most important - tell your story, ok?
Reporter: After such parting words Danik has got a bit lost and to the question, if he feels the rivalry, he gave an absolutely children-like answer.
Daniel: All are the rivals!
Reporter: All are the rivals?
Daniel: Yes, all are the rivals!
Reporter: So, you don’t have any friendship between you, just a rivalry?
Daniel: Oi, the other way around – all are NOT the rivals! :)

An interview after arrival in Minsk airport, 18.11.10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhQz6cGU7jo
Alex: Come on, come on!
Reporter: With what kind of emotions you have come here?
Alex: With the sick ones. No, it’s very pleasant for me to come to Belarus again, but it’s a pity that I have got sick just at a time when I have come to my mother-land. You are as sweet as always, that’s pleasant.
Reporter: Are you having a cold?
Alex: Well, yes. But I don’t have high temperature, so I’m glad. But it hurts very much when I speak and my ears hurt.
Reporter: Do you follow what’s going on on Junior Eurovision?
Alex: Well, I liked very much… but I don’t know if she’s a participant from this year or from the last one, Ksjusha.
Reporter: Ksjusha Sytnik (a winner of the Junior Eurovision 2005. Alex mixed the things up a bit)
Alex: Ksjusha, yes. It didn’t work out this time but I hope for the next time (he meant that he was supposed to sing a duet with Ksjusha but then he refused)
Reporter: Who is your favorite from the participants of this year?
Alex: I didn’t see them yet. I’ll watch them now. The same as in Oslo this year. I didn’t know almost nobody before the final. Because I like surprises.
Reporter: What kind of performance have you prepared for the Junior Eurovision, tell us please?
Alex: Since it’s a show for the children and for the families, I prepared a very bright song from my new album, which is about Europe. It is like I sing about a girl but actually I sing about Europe, that I will always come back to it. And it’s a very bright song with such a rhythm…
Reporter: In your opinion, what’s the difference between Junior Eurovision and adult Eurovision?
Alex: I think and hope that in Junior Eurovision everything is more safe, that you, the press, treat them better, not paying more attention to the scandals than to the talents and so on, because on the adult Eurovision they paid as much attention on whom I was hanging out with, as on what song I had. And here I hope that they will show more of the young talents.
Reporter: In your opinion, what kind of questions the journalists should ask the children? Give an advice to the journalists.
Alex: Hah, no! Well, I would ask them what they have learnt on this project. Or whom they made friends with, well, such pleasant questions.
Reporter: How many rehearsals will you have here, how long you will be preparing the performance?
Alex: Here I hope it won’t be long, because I have prepared the whole performance already, so we will work only for the technicians.
…
What I have seen that there is almost no criminality in Minsk, everything is very quiet…
(Meeting the fans)
Alex: Your name is Sasha. Thank you very much.
A girl: I’m Lena.
Alex: Lena? You look like Lena.
Lena: How is that? We are very glad to see you.
Alex: I’m glad to see you too. But I just hoped that I would have been healthier. Well, ok, we’ll meet again the day after tomorrow, right?
Lena: I’ll be at the rehearsal and will wave to you.
Alex: Why to wave on the rehearsal, we will be rehearsing there.
Alex: With my female-violinists…. So, you can say that this trip is a culmination of this year.
...
Reporter: Get well!
Alex: Thank you.

Alexander in Morgennytt, NRK 25.11.10
H: Alexander Rybak has brought his fiddle and a Big Band, and will now charme people around the country with Christmas songs. In addition to the band, local artists will participate in the Christmas concerts. Yesterday – it was rehearsals.
(Singing ‘Let it snow’)
H: Alexander Rybak, welcome to Morgennytt!
A: Thank you!
H: You have come here almost directly from tour abroad, to rehearsals for the tour here at home – where have you been
A: Yes – it has been almost continously - as you can see, I was very concentrated on rehearsal... because ..as I said - it has been continously... I have been to Miami, Ukraina, Malta, Helsinki and all that, like... lately ... and without any break... so then I just had to work with the Christmas tour while I was in all these different countries.
H: You have enough to do?
A: Yes! So it was... but it was nice because while I was everywhere in Europe... and a little lin Asia and a little in America ...all the time I thought of being back here – because... I thought: I’ll be home for Christmas!...
H: But do you have any time to experience the places you are, when you are on tour abroad?
A: You know – this year I do. Last year it was a little ... a little... too much.. it was a new country every day, almost.. and then it felt almost like I got a ‘trailer’ of the town , – know what I mean? – like ‘Oh – I have to come back here once...’ while I was there, kind of.. But now it was more like 3 – 4 days – so I – like, drove a ‘water scooter’ in Miami – that was great fun.. around all Miami..
H: How have you been met by people all these places?
A: Yes – eveywhere! ( T: He obviously didn’t hear the question right...) It’s very fun! But then I make a little extra task for myself, because I – instead of doing like the really big starts do – like Lady Gaga – I will rather make a special performance for each country – so as in Finland I sing a couple of songs in Finnish (?? Never heard THAT!) In Ukraina I have Russian songs, right....in America I play country – I work really hard to please my audience.
H: ..and making more work for yourself..?
A: Yes.. And now I work more than ever with this Christmas tour..
H: Yes, what will people get to hear?
A: First of all they will HEAR a band of 11 people, this isn’t a money-saving-tour... I think Christmas should be about giving...and not about getting – so I give people a gift in the shape of lots of humour, - many swing songs, right – Christmas songs – because it started for me with swing – here by you in NRK – in 'Kjempesjansen' - then I sang my own penned song ‘Foolin’’ – with a big band – so,then I arranged that one myself – and it is one of those I will sing – in addition to lots of Christmas songs, that I also have arranged.
H: What sort of relationship to you have to.. – American Christmas songs for example?
A: It is the first Chritmas tradition I got, I think – when I moved to Norway,... because when I was 6 – 7 years I was only used to New Year – that is what we are celebrating in Belarus, and then we have Christmas 7th January. But now I understood that 24th of December something was happening, because so many got together... and so we started celebrating that day, then.
H: What about Norwegian Christmas songs – do you have any relationship to that?
A: Yes, mmmm ... it’s..
H: Some you like especially well?
A: Yes, I like ‘Romjulsdrøm’ – everything by Alf Prøysen is good. Eh ... I like Norwegian Christmas songs of course in a different way, because then it tells a story, you understand it in another way than the English, of course – because the Norwegian songs unite at once the child and the adult – everyone knows the message – in addition to the melody... But – then there are – like ‘Let it snow’ – one of those we are singing – there the melody says everything..
H: Mmm. You say, in a way there was Christmas only when you came to Norway – what is the Christmas traditions for you – what kind of Christmas traditions do you have now?
A: mmm – Ribbe! (T: pork ribs – one of the traditional Norwegian Christmas dinners) - that’s the best tradition of them all! No... – use a lot of money for gifts – money I don’t have... (laughs) – so now it is the same here, too – just make a bigger impact..
H: Might be coming some money in, on this... on this...?
A: Yes if I am lucky, we will break even, know what I mean – in this year, I first think.... I could have dragged along a guitarist and a pianoplayer, right – but I rather... as said... Christmas is about giving..
H: So this will be show?
A: Yes, it’s a meeting again with my audience!
H:Mmm. You will use local artists the different places?
A: Yes!
H: Can you tell a little about who we will meet around?
A: Yes it’s like we do this little by little, step by step..- a little strategically ... so we can tell the first... it is a local... a local ‘hope’ from Stavanger, who shall sing in Sandnes – she is called Marijke Wang, a very, very skilled musical star. And then we will have Ingrid Haukland in Trondheim – because that was the nearest to Bodø – where she comes from – I just had to have her with us...
H: Yes you need to tell from where she is known?
A: From X-Factor... Yes – she was ‘out’ there, but not by me! – and it’s actually some more X-factor participants that will be with us..
H: So what other places will you play on this tour?
A: - ooh – I really should know this – but we end the tour in Oslo,... 18th and 19th in Kolbotn, 20th and 21th in Chat Noir, 22nd in Drammen – and before that we have Hamar, Lillehammer, Ålesund, Trondheim, - we have Tønsberg – there will Didrik Solli-Tangen be with us... And then we have Arendal – because now I have... my last concert in Arendal was the only concert that was cancelled with me ever – and that will not happen again! – So now I’ll put together the best team...
H: But after the last concert – then it will be Christmas for you, too?
A: yes, no – it’s now it’s Christmas...- during these concerts – it’s the best of Christmas!
H: Wishing you a lot of luck with the concerts – and thanks for coming here, Alexander Rybak!
A: Thank you - pleasant!

I don't know if anyone else heard this, but I was listening to Radio Norge today, appr. 13.50 - when I heard a familiar voice in a very short interview. It lasted less than a minute and was about "on a cosy Friday night in front of the tv, what would you offer your guests?"
The first answer was "HD-tv!" Then Alexander was asked about the food he would serve, and I don't remember it by heart, but he said something like "even I can shop some chicken, make a sauce - there are so many different good sauces you can buy - and then cook rice or spaghetti."
That was about it :) (I know I shouldn't comment here, but - just wanted to say I agree, I even ate that last night!)

The Grand Prix-hero of Norway, skips Norway.
The winner of the Eurovision 2009, Alexander Rybak, wants to compose for Belarus in the future.
Last year, he participated for Norway and won big-time The ESC with the cheerful song Fairytales
...But now, it is over, with writing songs for Norway, tellsslut med at Alexander Rybak in an interview to norwegian VG.
In the future, he prefers to compose songs for eastern european artists and most wished are artists from the homeland, Belarus.
- I will not participate myself again. It is foolish to try to top yourself. But I would very much like, to be a composer for another artist, says Rybak ,who doesnt fear the reaction from norwegians, when he exchange them for belarussians-
- There are many different opinions on me in Norway. Some will regret, but others will be glad - says the violinist, who is sure that the musical shift to eastern-european is the right thing for him.
But before Alexander Rybak shoots another ESC.-hit out of his sleeve, the violinist, who earlier this year had a nervous breakdown, is going for a Christmas-concert-tour in Norway.
- I wish for audience, as Christmas-present, Rybak says with a smile.

Article in Se og Hør, 4. december 2010. Translated by Laila Ulvseth
Never forget my childhood's Christmas
Here, Alexander Rybak tells us about his private Christmas celebrations.
- I believe everybody has expectations about the perfect Christmas eve - but with us there is always some quarreling and hectic. But that is what makes it so special, says Alexander Rybak.
On Se og Hør's exclusive picture we see him as a 7-year old with daddy Igor Rybak (56) and grandmother Maria Savitskaja (84). This is the first picture of Alexander's first Norwegian Christmas.
- I remember that we had pork ribs for dinner and that I got a lot of presents. Dad and I always had a competition about who got the most presents, he smiles.
Mommy Natalia Rybak (51) adds: - Celebrating Christmas in Norway was very different than in Belarus. Here there were Christmas music and festivities everywhere. As early as the first Christmas here, we decided to make pork ribs for dinner - now this is our tradition too, she smiles at Se og Hør.
- Mom always say that I'm the one who makes the ribs. The truth however is that I am the one to put it in the oven, and take it out, Alexander laughs.
Already the first Christmas eve in Norway, the Rybaks decided to spread their musical joy to the local community. - At that time, Alexander played both violin and piano, and together we played for the Salvation Army. We still do, says Natalia.
- Giving presents to the children was a big issue in Norway. Alexander's first present was a clown playing a lullaby, that he loved very much. To this day it is in his room at Nesodden, mommy smiles.
Today, a common Christmas eve is a hectic day for Alexander. - We get up early. Mom and I like to watch Flåklypa (one of the best animated movies in Norway ever (translators comment)). Dad prefers watching Russian free wrestling.
What the star seldom talks about, is the charity he does. - Later that day we perform some church concerts, before we perform for the homeless at Nesodden. I often play at Radiumhospitalet (Norway's main cancer hospital, situated near Oslo (translater's comment)), and for others with a story that moves me. But I'll never get so cynical as to invite the press to such events. That is too personal, he says, and adds: - Christmas is a reminder that the best things in life is to make others happy!
