Old stuff, one year ago, from Norwegian radio. Interview with Alexander and Frikar before the Norwegian ESC. May be not all have heard it before? http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/klipp/461440
Reporter--Is everything as prepared as it should be, Alexander?
Alexander--No! And that is quite good, but we can see what those crazy people who are together with me, are doing.
Reporter--In the place you rehearsal?
Alexander--Yes look, they are practicing and practicing... And five, six, seven, eight.. They are even more perfectionists than I am, and practicing again and again, and we like that!
Reporter--Who are together with you here, it is three dancers?
Alexander--Yes it is three dancers. The three best dancers, I would say, from Frikar. Which is a ”free dance” group, is it correct Hallgrim? (Lausdans)
Hallgrim--Yes we are originally (Lausdans) free dancers, but many call it Halling dance.
Alexander-- This is Hallgrim, but we have two more; Torkjell, say hi Torkjell. And we have Sigbjørn. I think he looks a lot like Daniel Craig, and I think we will receive a lot of votes because of that.
Reporter--You are actually having James Bond with you on stage..
Alexander--Yes, and that is very good.
Playing some of “Mountain rose” from Sven Nyhus
Reporter--What is Frikar?
Hallgrim--It is a dance company which work with refined roughness. I meant it was a lack of masculine dance on Norwegian dancing scenes, so therefore we are eight halling dancers, five breakers and five capoeiras.
Reporter--How will it be to stand on stage with Alexander in Norwegian ESC?
Hallgrim--Ha has made a cool and groovy song, which is real juicy to dance along with. So no matter which setting, it is fun to dance to that song.
Playing some of ”Song from a secret garden” from Rolf Løvland
Reporter--What type of relationship do you have to Norwegian ESC?
Alexander--I have a television-watching relationship to it, normally. And suddenly, now I am the one who is a part of it
Reporter--Do you have a favourite from through the years, which you remember particularly well?
Alexander--It is a reason why two of Rolf Løvland’s songs have won twice in the international competition. He knows how to mix soul with being a little cynic, is it correct to say that? He considers what people want the particular year.
Playing some of “Let it swing” from Rolf Løvland. (ESC winner 1985)

Interview in Russian magazine “Stylish haircuts” (February, 2010)

http://s002.radikal.ru/i200/1001/6f/0b0ab12bfdd4.jpg
Alexander Rybak “I like contrasts”
A: Dear readers of “Stylish haircuts”! I wish you love, beauty and perfect mood. Smile more often and then as in a fairytale luck will smile you back.
J: In the exclusive interview to “Stylish haircuts” the winner of ESC Alexander Rybak told us how he cares for his appearance and how to charm him.
Sasha, we’d like to ask you the question which is interesting to millions of girls: do you have a girlfriend?
A: No, my heart is still free (laughing). I have much work now so I don’t have an opportunity to meet with girls, make court to them. But probably it’s not time to have serious relationships. I’m not ready now.
J: Men always respond to a fragrance. What fragrance should a girl have to please you?
A: Sweet. I like vanilla, caramel. The fragrance can attract, but it’s not the main thing. I pay attention to smile and smiling eyes. Intellect and beauty also play not the last role.
J: Do you like perfume?
A: I really like Hugo Boss for men. And I respect a lot the whole product range of this brand. …shower gel, deodorant – generally all a man needs. To use one range is more comfortable and pleasant to me.
J: So are you constant in your choice?
A: 100%! I suppose that people should leave memory about themselves. So let it be fragrance of good expensive perfume at least.
J: Sasha, how often do you visit beauty shops or hairdresser’s?
A: Once a month for one and a half an hour (smiling). It’s enough to refresh my haircut or make something new with hair.
J: How do you care for your hair? Do you set your hair by yourself?
A: I have not short hair, it’s universal enough. So the secret is simple: clean hair, some gel and wax. And the hairstyle is ready.
J: When you became famous, did you become to care for your appearance more attentively?
A: It seems to me that the main thing for men is to have a bath and a shave (laughing). And to care for the teeth. I brush the teeth three times a day. May be it seems strange but I got used to it. Breath is fresh and the teeth are healthy. I really like a Norwegian tooth paste or Blend-a-med.
J: Do you use any image makers’ services?
A: Image makers are needed to help ensembles find appropriate costumes, hairstyle. I don’t need them. I know well how I should look.
J: Do you buy clothes by yourself?
A: Certainly! Sometimes my friends, colleagues advised me. Now I do it myself. I like H&M. When I come in the shop and see the thing which I like I buy all colours at once.
J: How can you define your style?
A: In my opinion, it’s casual. In Norway dressing style is simple enough. Nobody thinks about what to wear to go to the conservatory. Norwegians can wear even shorts or sport suit.
J: Everybody remembers you in the black and white clothes…
A: I really like contrast combinations. Black and white is non-trivial, comfortable and fashionable combination.
J: Could you tell us how do you care for your figure? What about diets?
A: I like sport. I finished courses as fitness-trainer. I think that if you are a man you must be strong. Moreover I perform on the stage that’s why I must be in the form all the time. And about diets… Sometimes I don’t just have enough time to eat. Probably this is my diet (laughing)!
J: How often do you go to the gym?
A: Now unfortunately I go there not regularly because of constant trips to different countries. But if I have an opportunity I prefer power exercises with dumbbells, weights. I have enough jumping and running on the stage.
J: What do you do in your spare time?
A: I really like surfing, slalom and riding a bicycle.
J: Can you cook?
A: If it’s necessary, I can cook omelet, meat. I like more when my mother cooks kolduny or Belorussian draniki – some potato with meat. It’s delicious!
J: You’re 23 years old but you look much younger. Why?
A: It’s nice to hear that. Maybe because I like 18 year-old girls (laughing).
J: How do you spend money? Do you have any big dream?
A: I spent my first fee on the TV-set. But money doesn’t matter too much for me. There is almost nothing to spend money on. I don’t want a car. But I don’t mind building a big house in Norway.
J: How has your life changed after the victory of ESC?
A: Recently “Fairytale. The movie” has released. It’s the movie on DVD where my life is shown: rehearsals, tour, trips, fans. And of course, my debut album Fairytales and its reissue Winter Fairytale with 2 songs in Russian: Skazka and Kogda ujdyosh.
J: And could you please wish something our readers?
A: Love, beauty and perfect mood!

Reporter Hanne Hoftun (R) interviews Alexander on his birthday 13th of May in the hotel in Moscow, the day before the semi-final. From Norwegian radio. http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/klipp/494124
R--Alexander Rybak, happy birthday!
A--Thank you!
R--We have seen in interviews of you the last months that you are twenty-two and a half years, but now we can actually see that it will be twenty-three. How does it feel to celebrate your birthday here?
A--It is actually quite nice. I got many sms’s already yesterday at 22:00 o’clock, because here in Russia the time was 24:00. So there were many people in Norway who were smart enough to understand it was a two hours time difference, so I got maybe 25 sms’s from Norway at 22:00 o’clock.
R--The inbox on your mobile phone is filling up and is beginning to get quite full.
A--Now I have a secret number, so they are from good friends and it is very nice. Every message I got is from someone I know very well.
R--Your birthday today will first be celebrated with a little rehearsal in the arena, the bus is actually waiting for you to go there. What happens?
A--Oh shit, are they waiting for me now? Well, there are two main rehearsals, and I do not know any better way to celebrate…
R-- And then I have heard that perhaps there will be some other festivities, but maybe it is a little secret.
A--It is so much secret that I do not know about it either.
R--Then we will not talk more about it. But, Alexander Rybak, how has these two last weeks been like, staying here?
A--It is very easy to be here, because all the people are very much service minded. And it is not the way I remember Russia five years ago when I was here in Moscow. But perhaps I was in little wrong places, on those classical universities where all the professors were soaring because they were not students any more. But here everybody is really cool and nice.
R--Perhaps it is an advantage that you speak the language, I hear rumours about the delegation needing help from you, as a translator, when they are out eating dinners.
A--Yes I work as a translator here, but now I have learned that it should be on my permissions, and I like that role. Now I can talk as low as I want, and never the less the others keep quiet because they know I am the only one who speaks Russian. And if I order food for them, there is always a lot of quarrelling about who is getting what to eat, but when I open my mouth and speak something in Russian, everybody gets quiet. They know it is the only chance they have, because then I am ordering what they want to eat.
R--Tomorrow it is semi-final, in which where we are going to qualify for the final. On a scale from one to ten, how excited are you?
A--I am… Excited is not the word, I am rather much more… I have not the word for it, I am curious really. I wonder what will happens. I am not excited about our achievement, because we know what we can expect.
R--I have a little birthday gift for you. I have bought a small Matrjosjka doll, it is a keychain which will bring you good luck tomorrow. But then I though, you have found out that you will rather come with a gift to all of Norway, in the occasion of your birthday. You are giving out a new song today.
A--Yes I come with a new song today.
R--Do you think people are getting bored of Fairytale, it that the reason?
A--Yes, but… they have to bear with it a little longer.
R--Tell about your new song, it is called Funny little world.
A--It is about when you are young, well I am not that bl...(swearing a little) young any longer... But when you fall in love then, you all the time hear from older people that you have to enjoy the feeling of being in love, because you will fall in love many times. And then you are getting devastated, because how are you going to relate to that, sort of. So I wrote a song about how crazily in love I was, and that I not necessarily would be forever, but that you sort of remembers the feelings you associate with that person, forever.
R--Good luck tomorrow Alexander! And I wish you to keep having a fantastic birthday today!
A--Birthday, joho

Interview with Alexander 19.06.09 vg-lista Rådhusplassen, Oslo. After playing Fairytale, from NRK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzLsOdLxOaQ
Reporter--Suddenly, I found a guy who walked around here, Alexander Rybak! Alexander, now you have won MGP (Norwegian ESC), you have got six on the dice from vg reviewing your new CD, and now you have risen from an opening in the floor in front of ten thousands of people. How was that feeling?
Alexander--I am forever grateful to vg, absolutely. It is very fun. It seemed like the crowd out there liked the song now, but it is the type of song which need some time before you understand it…
Reporter--But it seemed like they knew the lyrics?
Alexander--Yes
Reporter--You have gone from being an ordinary boy from Nesodden, to suddenly become the favourite in Norway. How is it really, when everybody want a piece of you?
Alexander--Then it helps to be from Nesodden, because you have learned a lot of tricks there. Absolutely. I hope all will come and visit me… (Laughing).. No, I will not start again… No, ok .., nice village!
Reporter--Nice village. Will there be any vacation for you at all this summer?
Alexander--(Looking at the camera) What did you say?
Reporter-- Will there be any vacation for you at all this summer?
Alexander--Yes, but my vacation is sort of doing this, and I hope people will back me up.
Reporter--You have a lot of fans, both in front of the stage, and more in front of the television, Are there anything you want to tell them, when you now have the chance?
Alexander--I promised to wave to my mom, when I was on television today. Hello mom! But perhaps she is here, actually. So then it does not help doing it, but it doesn’t matter.
Reporter--You are going on stage again later, and we really look forward to that!

I have found an interwiew in swedis girl´s teenage magazine Frida, from june. There is no link to show you and there are only photos we have already seen - from the boat trip with journalists in Moscow, at Gardermoen after the victory and the old one together with Ingrid. There is also a small one from stage at ESC and an even smaller of Natalie Portman:
After the break-through in Moscow Alexander Rybak got admirers over the whole world. But it hasn´t always been easy for him with girls and friends.
"At school I was rather mobbed and didn´t have many friends. But I think that´s pretty common when a child is growing up. But I´m not bitter about that, instead I had time for practising my instruments. It also made me analyze the others at school and learn from their mistakes, so I hadn´t to do them, myself", Alexander says.
If Alexander was to describe himself, he would say he is a woozy romantic. At the moment he has no girlfriend, but he tells there are girls he dreams about.
"Partly it´s my first love. I think you always are going to feel something extra for that person. Sometimes I think back of what things were like then, but it would not work now, people grow apart. But there is also a new friend i have dated a bit, but now she has a boyfriend, so that´s off, haha. Last but not least I dream a liitle extra of Natalie Portman. She is so beautiful, smart and funny!"
Do you easily fall in love?
"Yes, absolutely. Unfortunately I often scare girls away, because I am a little bit to eager. I really pay all my attention on the girl i like and I do everything for her!
What kind of girls do you like?
"The childish and funny girl. I like girls who are indepenent, but at the same time I want them to be needing me. I am a bit old fashioned and I like to be the one who takes care of the girl. I want to show her the world!"
What´s the first thing you notice when you meet a girl?
"I notice what she´s got. I can´t say anything in general, because some girls have beautiful eyes and others don´t, but those who don´t maybe have something else that´s beautiful - and then it is that I notice."
What should a girl do to charm you?
"Dare to have eye contact and smile. I would be glad for a compliment but rather not about my music. Of course I´m glad if she does like it, but if she has an interest for me, we must be able to talk about something else. I would like her to tell me about herself. I like girls who can show me who they are."
If you should ask a girl for a date, what would you do on the date?
"If it is summer i wold rather be outdoors. We would eat something good in a restaurant or at my place. I want to show her that I am a good guy, that can cook, although I can only make one dish, but it is super! The recepie is secret but I can tell it´s a stew, containing chicken. But I´m not the one who plannes the date into details, I think we would just make things happen.

PS--Congratulations on your big day Alexander, you didn’t really believe in this?
Alexander--I believe in it now
PS--And you were uncertain after the first heat, because there are many good artists participating this year.
Alex-- Eight, well twenty-one all together, but eight today
PS--You are going to meet, I will say, one of our best songwriters. She won last year with “Hold on be strong”, please welcome Mira Craig!
Alexander--Yes!
PS--We must not forget that this is a songwriter competition, and here it is the author who also performs Fairytale. Mira, it is magic to win MGP?
MC--Yes it is, and this is very much deserved. And I really think we can do it well this year!
PS--You believe it could go all the way?
MS--I think so!!
PS--Alexander, you have to get ready, Frikar is waiting. I can take this one. We take it.

MHS--I will say that this reminds me about the audience we had in Belgrade, don’t you agree Mira?
MC--Absolutely, very good!
PS--When we were in Belgrade, you were also very much on the analytic part about who could win, why do you believe Alexander can take this home?
MC--I think because it has something Norwegian and Nordic to it, it is something which represents Norway. But also because the song is so insanely good!!

Yes!!!!!!!!
PS--Do you want to hear Fairytale?
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS--Here is Alexander Rybak with Frikar. The winner of Melodi Grand Prix 2009 - Fairytale!!!
PS--Thank you Alexander Rybak and Fairytale, Frikar. The victory is yours Alexander!
PS--Then it only remains for us to thank the phenomenal audience in Oslo Spektrum, it has been real fantastic. Thank you at home who have voted, and thank you Christine Hope as Amy Winehouse.
MHS--If you wonder about something regarding Alexander Rybak and Frikar, you have to log in to nrk.no and ask questions, because they will answer during the week-end.
PS--Yes Alexander is actually having a web-meeting on Monday, and then you will have the answers to all your questions about his fairytale.
MHS--We will enjoy the confetti further tonight, hope you will do the same.
PS--See you in Moscow in May! Have fun!

Little article from "Se & Hør" about 2 weeks ago:
-Alexander followed by bodyguards.
-Attacked by a mad man.
-Was bugged.
The Grand Prix medal to Alexander also has a reverse side. Now he speaks for the first time about when he was attacked. Shortly after Alexander had won the ESC, he held one of his many concerts in Moscow. Backstage after the show the stage was set for a drama. "I was attacked by a drunken man," says Alexander, adding: "I was very surprised because it happened so fast. The guards were in place and removed the man at once. In retrospect, I have thought about what might have happened. It was not a pleasant experience", says the artist. After that, the record company in Russia was very concerned about the young artist. "When I'm in Russia I always have several bodyguards around me".
Bugged.
Alexander has nothing against being protected. "Sometimes it is also practical. When I go out and have dinner with the girls in Russia, I always send the two guards to check whether there are photographers present", he smiles, before he again speaks about a less pleasant experience. "The guards always check my hotel room before I go in. I never understood why until they one time discovered monitoring equipment". - Were you afraid? "It was pretty unpleasant, but I have no idea why anyone would try to listen in on me," he replicate.
Pushed on the streets.
Also in Oslo, has the talented musician experienced envy and malicious actions. "I do not want to dramatize it too much, but I have experienced being pushed on the street by total strangers in Oslo. But I like to think I have the ability to talk me out of fights, "said Alexander with the fiddle.

Translation of a pdf-file of VG from today 19.01.2010:
Believe in Norwegian metal victory.
(Picture text) In the Studio: Alexander Rybak dubs these days the animation film ”How to train your dragon”.
"Of the songs I've heard so far, I keep a button on those boys. They differ sharply from the other participants and songs - just like "Fairytale" did last year", says Rybak to VG. He is not afraid of that the style of music becomes too hard for the average man in the street.
New record.
"People need to stop thinking so much on genre. A good song is a good song - and I hope Keep of Kalessin just continue to do what they always have done", says Rybak. It's been a little more then eight months since he went all the way to top in the Eurovision final in Moscow. Now there are new challenges next in line. "I work with a new record, and I hope to have released it to the summer", he says. This week VG could reveal that Rybak had bought a luxury apartment at Aker Brygge in Oslo. He has not moved in quite yet, but promises that the bachelor nest is to be furnished by all art rules. "It will be "supertøff"(= super cool/trendy), and I also hope to furnish a cool children's room, laughs Rybak. - Are you planning to have children? "Hehe. No, I don't need to. I already feel I run my own sponsor home with all the young supporters I have got the last year. It is enough happiness to get to be with them", he says.

@Marianne: Here's translation from the NRK clip (1670)
N: When Alexander Rybak went on stage in Skien, it was an enthusiastic audience that welcomed him back to where he won the part-final just three months earlier.
Now the young boy has the plans for his future career ready:
A: I think I will stay in Europe – it’s no use to... if everything goes to hell then we might take China – but – heh – one must first --- I won the Eurovision, not American Idol..
N: During the press conference Rybak was challenged by Norway’s perhaps best known folk musician, Knut Buen, to try his Harding fiddle.
A: Yes, that one – I am not sure that I can play on one of those....
N: After having tried the slightly unaccustomed Harding fiddle, Rybak didn’t hide that he have great like for Buen's Fiddle playing.
A: - and you don’t necessarily have to work with folk music to have Knut as an idol!
Knut Buen: He is in many ways ‘Veslefrikk with the fiddle’ (Tr: norwegian fairytale figure..)
- the myth about ‘Fossegrimen’ (Tr: - or Nøkken/ Näcken) comes to mind – Myllarguten (Tr: wellknown fiddle player in ‘the old days’) – Ole Bull (Tr: World famous Norwegian violinist)
A: laughs – listens to Knut playing.
A: - this is what I am talking about , I’ll play like this some time!’
