Olina. Thank you. I have Fairytale the movie. Do you know if this is identical to what's in the movie? I think I saw somewhere that not all of the concert was on the movie.
I would very much like to have a recording of the Nobel prize concert. Does anyone know if it's possible to get that anywhere? I have recorded it with our pvr, so I can watch it, but I can't record it to a dvd from that recording. I can also see it on webtv, but I would like a permanent copy of it.

Venche, no I don't know if this is the same version of the concert as the one on the DVD, I don't have the DVD yet. (just hoping to get my copy this month.). And I don't know about Nobel concert neither.

Thank you Olina. I downloaded it, because I want to check if it's identical. And I suddenly remember I don't have it on my PVR anymore because that stupid machine broke down, and that's not the first time.

Venche, it is almost sure, that it is the same concert-version on the link and on the DVD. That is the recording, made by TV and that is the one they have broadcasted and put on the DVD.
Olina..amazing good thing to do...you are so nice.
he says a lot betweeen the music-acts, Magdalena...It would be a lot of work to translate it..not something, I can do right now.
@Ewa, to make a copy of the DVD and give a link away, would be the same as stealing money from Alex. WE DON´T SUPPORT PIRACY HERE. WE ARE HIS FRIENDS AND DON´T STEAL FROM HIM.
The opera-concert has been shown on TV in several countries and is something else.
@Venche..aren´t you norwegian??? You can go to the homepage of NRK.no and find the Nobel-concert in 2 parts and watch it...But only inside Norway, sadly enough.

This is something old, article with photolink, but I haven´t seen it before.
This VERY old article from march 09 is new to me. It is written 2 weeks after Alex won the Norwegian MGP and was preparing the tour with Bettan.

"I wear shoes just for 20 EUR!"
After the victory in the ESC Alexander Rybak became popular not only in Norway, but in Russia and, of course, in native Belarus, where he is a national hero. Six months passed by and the musician almost became Russian: he had a tour in CIS, wrote the soundtrack for the Russian movie and shot a music video in Moscow.
The singer often visits Russia. This time we met with Alexander, when he returned after sound check from the Stanislavsky Theatre, where Alexandra Pakhmutova’s anniversary concert was being prepared. Rybak was asking his manager when he needed to come to the theatre in the evening. Only when he had specified all details, we started our interview.
J: Do you always ask your manager about any concert so careful?
A: Yes, it’s very important for me to follow a plan and know my schedule. I’m used to it in Norway, because there all concerts are well-organized. People involved in such events aren’t late, they don’t forget a disc for sound check. Unfortunately, I can’t say that about Russia (laughing). Here often there is a situation when no one is in charge of nothing.
J: Are you annoyed with it?
A: It’s a catastrophe for work! I’m getting really upset when my performance depends on someone who is unprofessional.
J: Nowadays many West Europeans go to the East from the stable and regular life in the Old World in search of adventures and adrenalin. For example, they go to our Siberia or Kamchatka. What do you think of that? Aren’t you bored to live in Norway, where everything is like clockwork?
A: Figurately speaking, sometimes it seems that people may be covered with fat sitting in their expensive and beautiful house, admiring the world from the window. Norway had been recognized the best country for living many times. Everybody keeps rules and laws, our streets are clean, people are smiling. On the other hand, Norwegians are not interested in art, music, movies or exhibitions at all, they can’t entertain themselves. People finish their working day, close their shops, then they go home to watch TV, at best they can meet with friends and relatives. This is a minus, of course.
J: In Russia we have many opportunities for entertainment, at least in the big cities.
A: I really like this in Russia. There is such a powerful and diverse culture!
J: Could you tell us how Minsk met you when you went there for the first time after the victory?
A: They met me as a national hero! Firstly I was embarrassed with such welcome. For a moment it seemed to me that I represented Belarus (laughing).
J: Have you got used to it then?
A: It’s difficult to get used to it because I have never had a dream to become popular. I didn’t even think that I can achieve the international success just playing the violin, moreover participating in pop contest. I liked studying and playing music but I didn’t make grand plans. I’m the same boy who played the violin in the room and got on neighbors’ nerves (laughing).
J: Ok, but to be honest, we can hardly believe in it. What would you like to do then?
A: I like composing music. May be I will be a composer writing music and soundtracks for movies. For example, recently I have recorded a song for Timur Bekmambetov’s movie Black Lightning. Sometimes I really want to lock myself in a studio to create and not to go on tour. Although I like it now, but I think in two years my life will change dramatically.
J: Do you like watching movies?
A: Yes, especially horror movies. I’m joking (laughing). To be honest, I like watching kind movies, for example, Disney cartoons or old Soviet movies. Therefore I’m so sorry that modern Russian directors or musicians copy the Western style instead of using and developing their own traditions. Sometimes I listen to Russian pop-music and wonder: a primitive synthesizer sounds in many songs. So amusing! Why not to use musical instruments for recording and then get a beautiful live sound?
J: Actually there are many people who play and sing live. But they are considered as not in the format. By the way, you are often compared with Dima Bilan. Are you friends?
A: We saw each other several times, but I can’t say that we are friends. Once we even were in the jury of the beauty contest in Minsk.
J: Really? Who won?
A: I don’t remember exactly. It seems that a girl from Venezuela won. But in my opinion, she wasn’t so special (laughing).
J: Who was your favourite girl?
A: Belarus, definitely.
J: I see you always speak with warmth and patriotism of your mother country…
A: Certainly, I was born there. Though I grew up in Norway, my soul is Belorussian or Slavic to speak more correctly.
J: Have you decided to republish your album and include 2 songs in Russian because of that?
A: I have many fans in Russia. I think they will be pleased to hear Fairytale in Russian and one more song “Kogda ujdyosh”.
J: Finally the song that won in Eurovision will be performed in Russian. There were so many attempts of its interpretations. Even Maxim Galkin made the parody on it. Have you heard it?
A: No. I watched several videos on YouTube. The parody of my song was also made in Ukraine, but in my opinion, it wasn’t very good. I promise to watch Maxim Galkin’s version.
J: Do you follow fashion?
A: No, not much.
J: Why?
A: I was never interested in fashion. But I like well-dressed people.
J: Do you consider yourself as stylish?
A: No (laughing). I can say that I have very simple style: one-colour sweaters, T-shirts. I know that boys of my age wear shirts or jackets. But I don’t worry what is fashionable now. I wear what I like – and go ahead!
J: Where do you usually buy clothes?
A: H&M. These shoes, for example, cost only 20 EUR (showing).
J: Famous designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney make clothes for this brand.
A: Yes, I know them.
J: But you say that you aren’t interested in fashion!
A: I have to work with some stylists because of my profession. But I think that most of them think mostly about a thing not how this thing fits me.

@ Olina, I really enjoyed to read your translation of that interview. Finally a bit of different questions, than the one we are used to. Is it really as he says, that there is such rich cultural life in the eastern countries?? I don´t think, people in Scandinavia are so lazy as he describes. There is a lot of music, theater, opera, dancing, art etc. going on, without anybody getting paid for it...But I dont know and this is not a discussion thread.

@ Marianne, I think I would not give you a proper answer anyway, I'm not into theatres, opera, classic culture at all. More into movies and pop-music. And as far as I know most of young people here are like me. And I think that cultural life of young people does not differ much in different countries nowadays. Maybe Alex knows more about it than me? Or he just sticks to the ideas that his parents told him about cultural life in Russia?
@ Julia, you are welcome! I have posted the link in the Russian thread as well.

“Rybak is not a star” 04.01.10
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3sY8F84McI
The very beginning is missing; the program is starting with Alex’s Ukrainian manager talking about his rider.
Manager: …Meat, side-dishes. But most of all he always asks for Coca-cola light, chewing-gum and chocolates.
Narrator: The hardest part for the organizers was to supply the star with proper musical equipment.
M: We’ve been collecting the equipment from all Ukrainian cites because now there are many concerts, days of cities and other events are going on all over Ukraine, so the technical rider we’ve been collecting from all over Ukraine.
N: For the Ukrainian concerts Rybak has brought an antiquarian violin made in the 18th century. The young man admitted that it’s a pleasure for him when girls go crazy about him at the concerts.
Alex: …When they draw big posters at my concerts, when sing my songs with me. Sometimes girls even write books about me, such fat-fat books. (So, somebody has given him some books before he has got the BOOK from the Facebookies)
N: 23-year old man is not tired at all of the attention of fans, on the contrary – he always answers the letters of fans and sometimes even dates them. The look is what Rybak values the most in girls because he thinks that physical features can tell a lot of interesting about a person.
A: I always ask myself – do I like the girl because she’s beautiful or I see some future together with her. And it’s very rarely that I meet a girl I really want to get to know.
N: Talking to a girl the musician does not like to talk about his achievements.
A: It’s very important to me what a girl wants to tell about herself. Because now in my world there is so much about me, it’s always me, me, me, so when I meet a girl, for example, when I’m on a date with a girl then I want to know about her. I’m tired of talking about myself.
N: The artist admitted that he’s ready to present women with diamonds and cars but he needs a formal reason for this like a birthday or New Year and, of course, close relationships.
A: When I invite a girl in a movie or for a dinner then, of course, it’s always me who pays. But I have never spent such big money before because I have not met yet a woman that I really like.
N: Although Alexander Rybak has not found a big love yet, still there are some feelings in his heart.
A: There is a person that I’d like to be THAT girl but it’s not possible to say by now.
N: Despite his huge popularity that suddenly has fallen down on him the Norwegian manages not to lose his mind. Although he admits that sometimes feels the strokes of a star fever.
A: The questions never irritate me but sometimes the way they ask them irritates me. If somebody is really impertinent with me… Sometimes it happens, especially in some countries.
N: After his victory of ESC Rybak had only 2 free days, but he takes his schedule with patience. He believes that his crazy popularity won’t last for long.
A: I will never believe that I’m a star. Emm… I can believe that I inspire people, that I give them joy.
N: It came out that they dislike Rybak in Norway cause his victory has brought to the country a lot of troubles with organizing the next year Eurovision. That’s why he likes to come to Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, where, according to his words, people are more kind and warm.
