The translation of the interview in the German magazine "Centaur": http://blaetterkatalog.rossmann.de/centaur/index.html
The success route of Alexander the Great.
Yes, the name conqueror suits him right! With his song “Fairytale”, which he introduced at May at the ESC, the whole Europe was captured within 3 minutes. Such a clear victory hasn't been taken by any other artist before!
Centaur: You arrived today from Minsk in Belarus to Berlin to rehearse for a TV show. You were born in Minsk, but you live near to Oslo since you were 4. Did you recognise your place of birth at all?
A.R.: I remember the park, the lake and the town. I still like it, today I think, it is even more beautiful. My family was not wealthy, rather poor. We lived in just a little apartment.
C: Do you still feel yourself in Minsk at home?
A.R.: A little, and I also speak Russian. But today I feel everywhere around Europe at home.
C: How does it come, that you came from there to Norway?
A.R.: My dad is a classical violinist and this time back he received an engagement from one orchestra in Norway. A wealthy norwegian family supported him at the beginning in overseas because he was very talented. My mother worked this time as a journalist at the television station in Minsk. 2 years later my dad brought us both over.
C: You started already at the age 5 to practise piano and violine. Was it your own idea?
A.R.: No, not really. My parents wanted to find out if I was talented, and when they did find out, that I was indeed, they made me to practise, every day, 2-3 hours. It was quite cruel althoug I have to admit, they pushed me with understanding and love.
C: In the leaflet of your new CD “Fairytales” you thank your parents for pushing you so early and persistent to the training of classical music. You also write there, that at times you were very angry about it. If you look back today – do you believe, your parents had right to do so?
A.R.: I don't regret it. For me it was a normal childhood. If I would have parents, jumping around in the park in kangaroo costume, I would have considered it normal as well. Kids can't compare parents. Every family has it's own style and that was ours.
C: Did you have any time to play with other children, to make friends with your age?
A.R.: Yes, I did. But when I in age 9-10 found out, that other children never had to practise that much, I was quite furious. My parents attempted then to buy me with ice cream or gifts. At this time I rather would have becomed a football player. My dad, however, wanted to make a famous violinist out of me, maybe because he himself hadn't achieved it. He was very disappointed when he realized, that I hadn't the intent to practise my whole life long.
C: When did you make it clear to him?
A.R.: When I was 14 and my violine teacher told me to play a certain vibrato in this and no other way, I insisted doing it in my way. I quitted to obey to the authorities. My mother was really in schock. When I was 15, I refused to practise any longer. I simply didn't want anymore.
C: With that you were as a violinist lost for a classical profession?
A.R.: Serious music? This kind of genre thinking is not necessary for me. When I have a story to tell, it is already serious and it isnt marginal, if I use a serious or entertainment music to do it. A violinist can operate with his violine much more than just playing Mozart. It would be sad to limit oneself just to the serious subject. I am quite proud of myself that during that study of classical music I managed not to cut myself out of todays reality. At 17 I wrote my first pop songs.
C: Do your parents support you today in what you are doing?
A.R.: Of course! They are handling my success very proffessionally. When I am on tour, they don't write me long letters, but just now I received this SMS from my mother: good luck! My parents listen to me and take my plans seriously. I gladly let myself to councel from them and other people, but inwardly I know very well, what I want.
C: Do you like it, when you are considered as a child prodigy?
A.R.: Well, I am no child any longer.
C: In the age 23 you had this enormous success with winning the norwegian Melody Grand Prix and a few weeks later as a winner of ESC. You achieved almost 16% of all the votes. With a gap like that no one before have won. Is it a pure joy you feel about it, or does this early, almost worldwide success also feel as a burden?
A.R.: Laughing. It is exactly the amount of fame I wished for. I enjoy the ravishment of my fans and I feel very privileged. For example, when I go to the McDonalds, I get an ice-cream for free. But I don't feel forced to continue doing it like that. In couple of years I wish to live a more quiet life, not any longer on the stage, rather more to compose. Some artist, who have made it to the success very early, tend to continue for decades on the same track, as good as they can. But that would ruin my conception of myself, if I would try to remain forever this cute joyful guy, I am today. One has to quit while beeing really on the top. To compose, on the other hand, one can as long as one lives.
C: What would you like to compose?
A.R.: For a ESC with my “Fairytale” for a duration of 3 minutes I tried to write a song preferably as simple and clear as possible. I was inspired through Grand Prix winner of 70th with those simple melodies. In the long therm I would like to write some film score, to tell the story with the music and to go more deeper.
C: You already had success as a violinist, as a singer, as an actor and as a componist. Is it possible to be equally good in each of those areas?
A.R.: At the moment I want to try out everything. To get really good, one has to concentrate 100% on what one is doing at the moment.
C: What are your short term plans for the future?
A.R.: What I really would like to do soon, is to sing jazz. My biggest luck is the success I had and I for what I am really thankful. A very few can afford it to go to a record company and to tell, let's make now an jazz disk. The fact, that I can afford it, makes me glad.

I have deleted my post 1497, which was a translation from an old article about the tour Spelman with Bettan and Alex. Tessa Lassie has provided me with a much better translation from Nynorsk:

Elisabeth Andreassen and Alexander Rybak took Velledalen by storm this weekend. The 700 who were lucky enough to get tickets, got a night they will never forget. Elizabeth performed songs from her new CD "Spellemann." One of the highlights of the concert was the performance of “ Blinde Karls song”, where Jostein Fet has made the text. Fet was present at the first concert, and got to meet Elizabeth, for the first time, after the concert. Otherwise the audience got to hear tunes from the Past Gere in her career, including "Danser mot vår". Alexander played alone, and together with Elizabeth, and he impressed everyone in the audience with the fiddleplay. When he also sings well, has humor and much charm, we will hear much from him in the future. One of the concert's highlight was of course the performance of the Grand Prix song "Fairytale." The two had with them five talented musicians on stage.
After the concerts there were autograph writing and sale of the CD, and artists were willing to photography, which delighted many.
The charge for the tour, was very happy with the stay in Velledalen, and praised "Lag for Lag" for implementation.
"Lag fo Lag" reports that the event went according to plan, and they will also thank those who helped that day, so that one could carry out these two great concerts.
And then, there was this bit, directly from Elisabeth Andreassens own blog:
Hello again!
Sykkylven was fantastic.
We arrived at 12:00 the time. Proudly told me about my home for the band and Alexander. Showed them where my family lived and where I spent my youth. It was is stunningly beautiful when you looked out over the fjord.
Took a trip to Aure (town center) and traded a couple of things. Went to cafe with my cousin Oddny. Väldigt trevligt att bara slappa av, höra sista nytt från familjen och ta en god kopp kaffe innan kvällen bjuder på två konserter. Very nice to just relax, to hear the last news from the family, and take a good cup of coffee before the evenings two concerts.
Soundcheck in Velledalen culture center, and dinner with the band. The organizers had made an well and tasty chicken with accessories. Delicious!
One of the concerts was very special for me. Not only werer large parts of my family in the audience, but also Jostein Fet. He has written the excellent text of “Blinde Karl”. The concert was super. Alexander and I had lots of fun. Our dressing room consisted of a classroom for 3rd classes from Velledalen. They had written greetings to us all over the blackboard. It was so nice for us to read. Thanks you, if you read this.
After the concert, Jostein Fet came to my dressingroom and we had a lovely chat and a cup of coffee. My two aunts, Oddlaug and Jorunn also came in and thanked me for the concert. I had told the audience that it had been born a calf during the night, which was owned by one of the organizers, and it was named after me, Bettan. Qiutet fun. Then aunt Oddlaug told med that her goldfish the same day was named after Alexander. Quite fun again.
The second consert, absolutely fantastic too. Wonderful audience, and even more familie in the audience.
After the concert so it was a nice signing and talk with fans and family. Very nice when so many come from the family. It's always fun to meet them. All the girls were very fond of meeting with Alexander. He is a very humble and generous guy who knows how to take care of his audience.
Afterward we were served food and enjoy with my cousin Wenche and her houseband, Bathia.
Wenche had made a very good "brennsnutt" (kind of vegetablessoup with meat, a specialety from Sunnmøre). We were gathered there, both the band and some of the family.
The Tour is an adventure, amazing encounter with the audience. The chemistry between Alexander and me are so wonderful. A wonderful joy on stage. We started again on Wednesday, March 11th with a special concert in Lillestrøm. See tour on the website.
CD sells very well and we are approaching the gold. Helt otroligt. Unbelievable. I just want to thank once again my producer Bjørn Ole Rasch for a great job. Helge Westby at Grappa. A thank all who have worked on this production so far.
Would also like to say thank you to my band that is completely amazing. Not just play nice and tough, but they are so nice guys. i härlig.Humor and seriousness of the wonderful mix.
Elisabeth "Bettan" Andreassen.

"They said it would kill my career"
Rybak: "I listened only to myself"
Last December 26th and 27th, website of Norwegian daily Aftenposten had a long interview and article on Alexander Rybak's projects. Stian Fikseaunet sent us a translation of the article by Arve Henriksen.
Aftenposten meets up with Alexander Rybak and his 15-men crew on his tour in Finland. That is Rybak’s third tour in Finland in less than 6 months. Rybak is especially popular among teenage girls, and he often spends hours writing autographs for his fans. Press officer at EMI Music Finland, Nora Norrlin, states that she's never experienced such excitement around one single artist as long as she's been working for EMI.
Rybak is a very fan dedicated artist and is doing his best effort to reply to as much fan mail as possible. Even during the flight, he has to write autographs, even for the cabincrew. The media attention around Rybak has been huge, his tour manager Dan Olosson says. The interest among fans is the craziest one in Finland, Russia and Ukraine, according to Arne Johannesen, one of the dancers of the Frikar-company who accompanied Rybak on stage in Moscow. Rybak tells in the interview that the biggest change after his victory is the lack of time to be just by himself. He has not had any time for relaxing, playing TV games, watching movies or making music. He has not been alone just by himself for 5 months now.
At the same time, he makes clear that he will probably never participate in the Melodi Grand Prix again as an artist, mainly because he believes it would be impossible to repeat the kind of success he had this year. Though, he tells us that he will probably write songs for the Melodi Grand Prix in the future and therefore participate as a composer, but as an artist it would be impossible to top the experience Moscow became. As Alexander suitably puts it: "It is possible to live with the memories".
After the first concert, when he finally arrives at the dinner reception, he is carrying an armful of gifts. He's telling that he's got so many teddybears from his fans that they have cost him over 40,000 NOK (€ 5,000) in overweight charges! This time he is planning to give away the teddybears to children in hospitals for Christmas. The next day, while going to Tampere by bus for the next concert, Alexander is spending his time trying to compose some new music. The goal is to release a new CD album in 2010. "Swedish producer Amir Ali will be the producer of it", Rybak says.
Rybak’s debut album, Fairytales, has sold approximately 110,000-130,000 copies in Norway (different pages come up with different numbers) and is the 2nd most sold album in Norway for the year 2009, only beaten by the Christmas album by the duo Sissel (Eurovision interval act in 1986) and Odd Nordstoga. Fairytales has reached 3 times platinum status in Norway, twice platinum in Russia and went gold in Sweden.
While scoring a major hit with his winning song Fairytale, reaching the top spot on the official charts in many European countries and the 3rd spot on the overall European chart, he has also been meeting up with other famous European artists, like Philip Kirkorov, Carola, Elisabeth Andreassen, Arve Tellefsen and also Wyclef Jean. He has performed for Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin, performed at the Nobel Peace Price Concert where he got to meet president Barack Obama the day before and also got in touch with world recognised artist Wyclef Jean. Wyclef Jean has admitted being a fan of Rybak prior to the Nobel Peace Prize concert, and now they got to meet up for the first time this December and also got time to spend time in the studio together. Jean also made a statement to the Norwegian tabloid paper VG that he would like Rybak to compose the orchestral composition on a new song which he will include on his next album.
Rybak was also welcome as a hero in his native country Belarus, where he met up with the president. Rybak participated in the Ukrainian version of Idol as a guest artist and has recently become heavily promoted in Russia with the theme song of the Russian action movie Black Lightening. He has himself starred as an actor in the movie Yohan, the child wanderer, where he plays the role of Levi. The film will premiere very shortly in Norway. Recently, there was a DVD-documentary called Fairytale, the movie, which focuses on Rybak's time and the following tours after the victory in Moscow.
Some other rarities of Rybak’s exciting year are, for example, getting a penguin named after him. In 2010, the Norwegian postal services will release new stamps with all the Norwegian Eurovision winners on. At the end of the interview, Alexander declares: "I am most pleased with myself for not listening to all the advises I got, like that I shouldn't bring my violin along, or not to have ompa-rythm in Fairytale and especially the one that I definitly should not take part in the Melodi Grand Prix. They said it would kill my career, but I listened only to myself, and I won."
Special thanks to Stian Fikseaunet, author of this article.

To watch it you may need Media Player Classic or KM-player.
I tried to convert it in a more popular avi-format but every time there was out of sync of audio and video, so I have uploaded it as it was, just all ads removed.
